This is what the kitchen looked like in May 1998.

There were four layers of wallpaper that had to be stripped. Under those layers, we found that lovely shade of turquoise enamel that seemed to be a favorite of the original home owners. It's as hard as nails. We've found it in several other places, too.

And below is what the first phase of the kitchen remodel looks like on July 4, 1998.

You can see a bit of the new bathroom in the shot on the right above. Below is what it looked like during its transition from a laundry room. Emma loved the new escape hatch to the basement created when Mike cut the hole for the toilet. It took awhile for us to figure out how she was getting to the basement. She eventually figured out how to get back up the hole. By the time Coco figured it all out, it was time to install the toilet.

Now for the next/last phase of the kitchen.
This is what it looked like July 3, 1998. The picture on the left is looking at the opposite side of the kitchen from the finished window wall. This is all there was to the kitchen after the 60's remodel--very few cabinets, and although not much counterspace, way to much orange countertop!!

And on the right is what it looks like July 10, 1998.
This weekend the rest of the orange formica comes down, and we start on the wall work.
The new cabinets are due in the week of August 3rd.
So, that means that before they come, we need to do the wallwork,
install the rest of the wiring, panel and wallpaper, refinish doors, (Mike will change the swing
of the back door)and then the fun part--pull up the vinyl and subfloor,
and restore the original oak hardwood that's under it all.
So why am I sitting here doing this? There's work to be done--always!!
